Kwara United returned to winning ways with a gritty 1-0 victory over Nasarawa United in their NPFL Matchday 32 clash at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Abdulsalam Abdulsalam converted a 94th-minute penalty after being fouled inside the box — a goal that could prove pivotal in the Harmony Boys’ fight against relegation.
The club is serving an indefinite ban from its Ilorin home ground, the Rashidi Yekini Stadium, following a crowd invasion during their Matchday 23 fixture against Rivers United. The NPFL also deducted three points, compounding the club’s struggles and forcing them to adopt Lagos as a temporary home.
“The decision has put us in more difficulties,” a club source admitted, “but the management has doubled its dedication to ensure we survive.”
Speaking after the win, Kwara United Chairman Kumbi Titiloye made an emotional appeal to fans and football stakeholders:
> “This is the right time the team needs you more. It’s unfortunate we find ourselves in this situation, but with everybody’s cooperation, prayers and support, we will survive the challenges. This present situation will be our reference point to avoid future occurrences, by God’s grace.”
Titiloye thanked the Kwara State Government and FA Chairman Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya for “doing beyond expectations” to keep the club afloat.
The win lifts Kwara United to 18th on the table with 36 points from 31 games, just above the drop zone with six matches left.
Technical Adviser Suleiman Ashifat hailed the team’s resilience, calling the result “vital” and vowing that the side will “continue to work hard to retain our league status”.
With six games to go, the Harmony Boys sit on 36 points.
The relegation battle is far from over, but Saturday’s lone goal in Lagos has given Kwara United belief again.
Good luck to kwara united in their next match.......
