The Kwara State Sports Commission on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, officially unveiled the official logo and mascot for the 8th edition of the Kwara State Sports Festival in a colorful ceremony.

The week-long fiesta is scheduled to run from Friday, August 21 to Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin. Athletes from all 16 Local Government Areas of the state will battle for honors across 28 sporting events.

Speaking to journalists at the Commission’s Conference Room, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Mallam Bola Mogaji, praised Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for providing a platform for youth engagement and talent discovery.

He also acknowledged the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, as well as the Chairmen of the 16 LGAs, for their commitment to grassroots sports development.

Relecting on the history of the Games, Mogaji recalled competing for Kwara State alongside Governor AbdulRazaq and Hameed Adio during the National Sports Festival. He noted that the State Festival was revived in 2000 to be held biennially, but progress was temporarily paused to allow for the renovation and upgrade of facilities at the stadium complex.

“This festival is
more than competition. It is a celebration of talent, culture, unity and the world-class facilities we now have in Kwara,” he said.

In his remarks the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Dr. Steve Olarinoye, assured stakeholders that preparations are well advanced.

“We have completed over 60% of the work ahead of the opening ceremony. We are fully ready to host a memorable festival,” he stated.

The LOC Chairman disclosed that over 700 male and female athletes are expected from the 16 LGAs, with each council allowed to present a maximum of 100 athletes across the various sports.

The festival will kick off with the accreditation of athletes and officials on Friday, August 21, while the grand opening ceremony holds on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
