Godwin Anekwe, Chief Executive Officer of Honours Intercontinental Concept Limited and sponsor of the Honours Independent National Baseball Tournament, has commended the Kwara State Baseball and Softball Association for successfully hosting the first phase of the tournament’s second edition in Ilorin.

Describing the tournament as “befitting and of high standard,” Anekwe expressed satisfaction with the organisation and quality of play witnessed during the Ilorin phase. He pledged even greater support for the second phase, which is scheduled to hold in Abuja soon.

“The second edition of the Honours Baseball Tournament in Ilorin was a huge success and deserves commendation,” he said. “As a former baseball player, I am overwhelmed to see the game growing bigger and receiving more attention than ever before in Nigeria. Many promising stars who can represent Nigeria in the nearest future were discovered during this tournament.”

He noted that the discovery of numerous talented baseball and softball players made the tournament even more successful.

The sponsor called on government agencies, corporate organisations, and development partners to collaborate with the association to produce more talents.

“As a former baseball player and ambassador of the game, I strongly believe the Baseball and Softball Association will soon attain federation status like other sports federations in Nigeria,” he added. “This will create job opportunities for our youths and keep them engaged, steering them away from social vices.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to making baseball and softball as popular as other major sports in Nigeria. “Our goal is to boost the game’s visibility and position Nigeria to compete with countries like South Africa and Uganda, where baseball enjoys greater recognition.”

He also urged parents and guardians to encourage their children to participate in sports.

The first phase of the 2nd Edition of the Honours Independent National Baseball Tournament concluded in Ilorin with improved participation and technical standards, setting the stage for an expanded second phase in Abuja.
