The Congress of the Kwara State Football Association (KWSFA) was held at the Football House, Ilorin, on Saturday, July 18, 2026. After extensive deliberations on issues affecting football development and administration in Kwara State, the Congress resolved as follows:
1. Congress commended the Executive Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CON, and the Kwara State Government for creating an enabling environment for the growth and development of football through sustained investments in sports infrastructure, particularly the upgrading and rehabilitation of facilities at the Rashidi Yekini Main-Bowl of the George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, Ilorin. Congress noted that the improved facilities have enhanced the state's capacity to host major football competitions and other sporting events.
2. Congress unanimously passed a vote of confidence on the Board of the Kwara State Football Association under the leadership of its Chairman, Mallam Idris Abdullahi Musa Thuraya, in recognition of the Board's proactive, transparent, and progressive approach to football administration. Congress acknowledged the Board's efforts in promoting grassroots football, strengthening partnerships, attracting sponsorships, and enhancing the profile of football in the state.
3. Congress approved the proposal of the Board to conduct elections into the sixteen (16) Local Football Councils on August 25, 2026. Congress further directed all affiliated bodies and associations to conduct their respective elections in accordance with the provisions of the KWSFA Statutes and relevant regulations ahead of the election into the State Football Association Board.
4. Congress urged the Kwara State Sports Commission to give special consideration to football clubs operating within the state by introducing subsidised rates, concessions, and waivers for the use of sports facilities. Congress observed that such support would reduce operational costs, strengthen club development, and encourage greater participation in football activities across the state.
5. Congress expressed profound appreciation to Engr. Femi Sanni Araba and the management of Stefolga Group and FlowFM for their commitment to football development through the sponsorship and partnership of the Kwara State Federation Cup. Congress described the three-year sponsorship agreement as a landmark intervention that will significantly contribute to the growth and sustainability of the state's oldest football competition.
6. Congress appealed to the Kwara State Government to consider establishing special intervention measures and support programmes for football clubs representing the state in national and international competitions. Congress also called for the introduction of incentives, grants, and other forms of assistance for privately owned football clubs, noting that such initiatives have yielded positive results in several other states across Nigeria.
7. Congress reaffirmed its commitment to the continuous development of football in Kwara State and pledged its support for initiatives, partnerships, and programmes aimed at discovering talents, improving football administration, and positioning the state as a leading football hub in Nigeria.
