OYUN COMPLETE STUNNING COMEBACK TO OUTCLASS ILORIN EAST AS GOVERNOR’S CUP/FIRST LADY’S TOURNAMENT HITS DAY 4
The Kwara State Governor’s Cup / First Lady’s Inter-LGA Tournament roared into Day 4 on Thursday, July 30, 2026, with high drama as Oyun Local Government Area staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Ilorin East 4-2 on penalties and secure a semi-final spot.
After a pulsating 2-2 draw in regulation time, Oyun held their nerve from the spot to edge a resilient Ilorin East side that has battled adversity throughout the competition.
Ilorin East began the tournament understrength with just 7 players following disqualifications during the screening exercise. Despite the setback, they pulled off a 1-0 win over 11-man of Ifelodun in their opener and looked poised for another upset on Match Day 4. They raced to a deserved 2-0 lead, scoring in each half and dominating the early exchanges.
However, Oyun refused to fold. Inspired and spurred into action, they mounted a spirited fightback with two unanswered goals to level proceedings and force penalties. The shootout was tense, but Oyun converted with composure to advance 4-2.

Football - Quarter-Final 1: Ilorin South defeated Irepodun 1-0
In Volleyball Girls Results: Offa LGA swept Oyun 2-0 in straight sets while ASA LGA edged Isin LGA 2-1 in a keenly contested match.
With the results, Oyun and Ilorin South have now qualified for the Semi-final stage.
The winners from tomorrow’s matches will join them to complete the semi-final lineup.
Sports Masters across the 16 LGAs have commended the organizers and the Kwara State Government for the successful revival of grassroots sports, describing the tournament as a platform for discovering raw talent.
The initiative, driven by His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the First Lady of Kwara State, continues to deliver on its mandate of youth engagement and sports development.
Speaking after the matches, Mr. Peter Johnson, President of Future Field Team, congratulated all victorious LGAs.
“Their commitment and fighting spirit have earned them a place in the semi-finals. This tournament is already changing lives, while new talents are also being discovered,” he said.
The remaining quarter-final matches will continue tomorrow, Friday, July 31, 2026, at St. Anthony Secondary School and St. Joseph College, Centenary, Ilorin.
Mr. Johnson urged sports lovers and football fans to turn out in large numbers to witness the emergence of Kwara’s next generation of champions.
