The Executive Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government Area, Hon. Femi Yusuf, has hailed the Kwara State Sports Commission for what he described as a landmark achievement in redefining grassroots sports development in the state.
Yusuf made the commendation on Friday, 28th August 2026 while speaking to journalists after watching an exciting women’s volleyball final between Offa and Oke-Ero Local Government Areas at the ongoing 8th Edition of the Kwara State Sports Festival, held at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
He described the festival as a testament to the visionary leadership of the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bolakale Magaji, and the consistent support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq in using sports as a tool for youth engagement, economic empowerment, and infrastructural growth.
"The State Sports Commission under Coach Magaji has set a standard that every local government must key into. What we are witnessing at KWASFEST 8 is the creation of a new Kwara where sports is not just recreation, but a veritable platform for talent discovery, community pride, and healthy competition," Yusuf said.
The Ifelodun LG boss praised the representatives of Ifelodun Local Government for their impressive performance and sportsmanship, noting that their participation has brought pride to the council and reflected the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
He stated that his administration is determined to domesticate the state’s sports blueprint in Ifelodun by initiating programs and providing support structures that align with Governor AbdulRazaq’s agenda of infrastructural and economic growth through sports.
"We are committed to creating a new legacy of sports development in Ifelodun. By aligning with the state government’s vision, we will ensure that our youths have access to opportunities that promote talent discovery, healthy living, and economic prosperity through sports," he added.
Yusuf congratulated the Kwara State Sports Commission, all participating local governments, and the athletes for making the 8th edition of the festival competitive and well-organized. He reaffirmed Ifelodun LG’s commitment to partnering with the state government and relevant agencies to sustain the momentum and build a lasting sporting culture in the local government.
