Ayeni Optimistic as Doma United’s Rebuild Gains Momentum at Valuejet Preseason Tournament
Doma United FC Technical Adviser, Deji Ayeni, has expressed optimism about the Savannah Tigers’ prospects ahead of the new Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season, insisting that the club’s ongoing rebuild is on course despite early preseason results.
Speaking to journalists after Doma United’s Matchday 2 encounter against Inter Lagos at the ongoing Valuejet Preseason Tournament, Ayeni said his immediate priority is to establish a competitive and cohesive squad rather than chase victories in preseason.
“I am not fixated on winning at this stage. My concern now is to build a solid team capable of competing effectively in the league,” Ayeni stated.
The experienced tactician, who was appointed less than a month ago, revealed that the state of the team he inherited made it imperative to embark on a comprehensive rebuild ahead of Nigeria’s apex league.
“Playing in the NPFL demands quality, focus, and determination. You need players who understand the demands of the top flight. This preseason tournament offers us a valuable platform to assess the players, test our systems, and prepare them mentally and physically for the challenges ahead,” he explained.
Ayeni further lauded the organizers of the Valuejet Preseason Tournament for assembling quality opposition, noting that it provides the perfect template to evaluate his work within the short time he has been in charge.
“The process is still intact and we are progressing gradually. I must appreciate the tournament organizers for bringing together quality teams. It gives us the right benchmark to measure our efforts,” he added.
