Doma United Secure First Valuejet Preseason Victory, Chief Coach Tayo Praises Team Mentality
Doma United FC returned to winning ways in style, securing a 2-0 victory over Smart City FC of Lagos in their Matchday 3 fixture at the ongoing Valuejet Preseason Tournament as preparations for the new Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, season intensify.
The Savannah Tigers had lost their opening two matches but produced a much-improved performance to claim their first win of the tournament.
Speaking to journalists immediately after the game, Doma United Chief Coach, Ebenezer Atayero described the result as a reflection of the team’s growing progress and commitment.
“The 2-0 scoreline is not my primary concern. What pleased me most was the way my boys conducted themselves and their willingness to double their intensity throughout the game,” Tayo said.
“We charged them before the match to go for the win and not to underestimate any opposition. We wanted to see the technical quality in the team and to take key lessons from the encounter. They not only delivered the win, but they also gave their very best.”
The gaffer also explained the club’s decision to split the squad between two preseason tournaments, with a section of the team currently featuring in another preseason tournament in Abeokuta.
“We divided the team to ensure all the players get valuable game time. It is part of our broader plan to build depth and give everyone a playing identity that will help us ahead of the league season,” he noted.
Looking ahead, Coach Atayero expressed confidence that the positive signs from the Smart City victory would translate into even better performances in subsequent games.
“I believe with this level of improvement, our next match will be better than today’s. The work is still in progress,” he added.
The tactician further commended the organizers of the Valuejet Preseason Tournament for providing a competitive platform for NPFL and lower division clubs.
“The organizers have done an excellent job in this edition. The level of competition has given us the right opportunity to prepare adequately for the league season,” Coach Ebenezer Atayero concluded.
Doma United will look to build on this momentum as the Valuejet Preseason Tournament continues in Ikenne.
